All the kids are out of school and summer is in full swing. Throughout Long Island, there are so many places and activities that are meant to be enjoyed during these few summer months. With all this free time and so much fun stuff out there, you may not be able to take advantage of it all. So, we rounded up the best of the best and compiled this definitive list of how all kids should be spending this Long Island summer.
Long Island Summer Fun for Kids
Long Island Aquarium
Travel out to Riverhead and spend the day at the Long Island Aquarium where you’ll get to see a wide range of sea creatures of all shapes and sizes. Watch your children’s eyes light up as they marvel at the 120,000-gallon shark tank. Catch one of the many daily sea lion shows. If you’re brave enough, try sticking your hand in and petting a live stingray or shark at their very own, Ray Bay. Parents Magazine even named it one of the Top 10 Aquariums for Children.
Head to Farmingdale for Long Island’s premier amusement park this summer and take on all of Adventureland’s many unique attractions. Of course, there are classic rides like the Ferris wheel, bumper cars, and the merry-go-round; but you should also check out newer favorites like Surf’s Up, the Drop N Twist Tower, and Little Dipper. They even have rides suitable for toddlers! Your kids are going to want to come back every week.
Wantagh Park Pool
When a public town pool doubles as a miniature swim park, you’re going to want to check it out. Look no further than Wantagh Park where you’ll find an Olympic-sized main pool, a “kiddie” pool, two 30-foot water slides, and an interactive water playground. This activity won’t break the bank and, even better, your kids will love it!
Jones Beach Bandshell
Summer is all about the beach so it’s no surprise that there’s a lot happening down by Jones Beach at their signature bandshell on the boardwalk. They routinely host events for kids of all ages. They have children’s concerts, magic shows, and plenty of movie screenings. Bring a couple blankets and some of your favorite snacks, the whole family is sure to love a night at this spot. A full summer schedule can be found here.
Crow’s Nest Cove Mini Golf
Freeport’s world-famous Nautical Mile is home to some of the best restaurants on Long Island, but also to one of the best mini-golf courses, too! Hit the links at Crow’s Nest Cove where you can practice your short game with the whole family. Navigate through pirate-themed holes and shipwrecks. Before or after your round, grab a delicious meal nearby or stop by the old-fashioned ice cream parlor next door.
