Everyone knows that the real holiday fun comes from all the events and get-togethers that happen throughout the month of December. Luckily, the towns around us have some of the best events running. Here are all the great ways that you can spend the holidays in New York.
Celebrating the Holidays in New York
RXR Plaza Christmas Tree
It may not be Rockefeller Center, but the RXR Plaza Christmas tree in Uniondale is still a great place to visit during the holidays. The enormous, decorated Norwegian Spruce will be on full display until January 13.
Dig up your old ice skates and dust them off because they have an outdoor ice skating rink, which is perfect for families and even dates. If the cold isn’t for you, then head inside the building lobby and check out one of their spectacular holiday performances by local schoolchildren.
On December 20, the Weber Middle School Chamber Orchestra and Choir will be performing from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m and, on December 21, the W.T. Clarke High School Choir and Middle School Chamber Singers will be on stage from 12:15 p.m. to 1 p.m. Just like every year, all proceeds will be going towards local Long Island charities.
Ugly Christmas Sweater Party
The holidays are truly about celebration, so head over to Mulcahy’s in Wantagh on December 22 for their 2nd Annual Ugly Christmas Sweater Party. The person who wears the ugliest Christmas sweater has a chance to win a brand-new television!
Starting at 10 p.m., you can enjoy free admission and drink specials like $3.50 Bud Lights and mixed drinks, as well as $4 Fireball shots. The evening will be scored from the turntables by the illustrious DJ Mike Savage.
The Festival of Lights
On December 28 at 6 p.m., come out to the Veteran’s Memorial in Bellmore village and celebrate Chanukah at The Festival of Lights, put on by the Chamber of Commerce of the Bellmores. Religious leaders from local synagogues will be on hand to conduct prayer around their 10 foot tall, silver menorah.
There will also be group sing-a-longs to traditional Chanukah songs, which will be led by children from local Hebrew and nursery schools. The Chamber of Commerce will be handing out chocolate gelt and offering some great Chanukah giveaways throughout the entire evening.
Rockville Centre hotspot, Parlay Gastropub, will be rocking on the night of December 23 when they host their 3rd Annual Jingle Jam. Throughout the evening, you can spread some holiday cheer while enjoying delicious drinks and great music.
From 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., Jahstix will be in the booth providing musical accompaniment for the evening. Then, from 11 p.m. to close, Boardy Barn’s resident DJ Doug O’Mara will be playing a spirited mixture of Christmas favorites and current hits. Reservations are recommended.
