The Belmont Stakes, the third and final leg of the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing, is one of the world’s biggest horse races. The Belmont Stakes 2018 will be held on Saturday, June 9 at Belmont Park in Elmont. This year, Justify, with jockey Mike Smith, looks to become the thirteenth horse to ever complete the Triple Crown sweep and etch its name into history. If you’re looking to attend this historic race, here’s everything that you need to know.
Belmont Stakes 2018 Racing Festival
Belmont Stakes 2018 will consist of a huge three-day festival, with the big race happening on the final day. However, if you can’t make it Saturday or are just looking for more race festivities, here’s what’s happening on Thursday and Friday, starting at 11 a.m.
Thursday, June 7
If you’re looking for a bunch of solid horse races, Thursday is a great day to visit Belmont Park. The day will kick-off with the Running of Astoria, followed by the Runnings of Wonder Again and Intercontinental, which measures at 7 furlongs.
Friday, June 8
There will also be plenty of big-money races on Friday, namely the Bed O’ Roses and Belmont Gold Cup Invitational. However, Friday festival-goers will also be able to attend a live performance from Mike DelGuidice & Big Shot, perhaps the most famous Billy Joel cover band.
Belmont Stakes 2018 Race Day
If betting is your forte, Saturday will have more horse races than you can shake your finger at. Besides the obvious big race, other notables include the Brooklyn Invitational, Jaipur Invitational, Ogden Phipps and the Runhappy Metropolitan Handicap, just to name a few. The day’s festivities will close with the much-anticipated Belmont Stakes 2018, which will roughly go off around 6:37 p.m.
Before the official start of the race, there will be a very special performance from the cast of the hit Broadway musical, “A Bronx Tale.” Then, following the immediate conclusion of the race, there will be another live performance from Third Eye Blind, best known for their hit single “Semi-Charmed Life.”
Unfortunately, parking for the Belmont Stakes is not only on an extremely limited basis, but it will cost you. Your best bet is to just order an All Island cab for a safe, reliable ride to the festival.
If you still don’t have tickets for the big race, buy them here before they’re all gone. And since Justify is going for the Triple Crown, expect tickets to run out quickly!
