For parents of school-age children, now’s the time for packing school supplies up into brand new backpacks, and lining them up at the door in anticipation of the first day of school. You’ve finally made it to the end of summer, and as much fun as you’ve had, you’re ready for the troops to ship out to school Monday through Friday. However, for the parents whose children aren’t quite old enough for school just yet, it may seem a little daunting that all the summertime activities have shut down for the season, and you may be left wondering what you and your little ones will have to do in the coming months. Have no fear! We’ve put together a list of local things to do with kids that are guaranteed to provide an afternoon full of fun!
There’s still plenty of fun to be had in the last few weeks of summer, and the Nassau County Parks are making sure you have ample opportunities to get out and enjoy the weather while it’s still warm! Between Eisenhower Park in East Meadow, Hempstead Lake State Park in West Hempstead, and Michael J. Tully Park in New Hyde Park, there’s at least one event going on nearly every day this month! Check out the list below for something fun to do this month:
The summer’s not quite over yet, and there’s plenty to see and do with the family before the kids start heading back to school in September. We all know that Long Island is the best place to enjoy the beach, outdoor activities, and great seafood in the summer, but that’s only the beginning of the fun we’ve got in our neighborhoods.
Thirsty Thursday Specials are everywhere you turn! Thursday is Ladies Night at most bars, and we’ve got a whole list of places where ladies will snag great deals while they’re out on the town! If we’ve missed any of your favorites, make sure you let us know on Facebook so that we can add them to the list!
No LIRR Strike!
The impending LIRR strike that was looming over all of us in the last few weeks would’ve negatively affected so many Long Islanders if it had come to fruition. Luckily, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced today that a resolution has been reached between the MTA and LIRR union officials regarding their contract disagreements.

To get you over the hump, we’ve found a bunch of great Wednesday bar specials and happy hours around the area to make sure you can have a good time without spending a fortune. It’s a lot harder than you’d think to find out what local spots are offering drink specials every night of the week (trust us, we’ve done it!). That’s why we decided we’d go through all the trouble of compiling a list of daily specials and happy hours at local bars in Nassau County—we want to make your life as easy as possible! So whether it’s wings, drinks, live music, or karaoke, we’ve found all the places that are offering great deals this summer for you to enjoy. From the North Shore to the South Shore, and the Queens border to Orient Point, Long Island is full of bustling communities, each with their own unique qualities and characteristics. Many of our towns have Main Street areas, where neighbors often bump into each other while going out to dinner, picking up groceries, or grabbing a treat at Carvel or Ralph’s.
There are so many fantastic, free concerts going on around Long Island this summer, but isn’t it a pain to try to find information on them? It feels like every site has bits and pieces of information, but there’s no exhaustive list to be found. While we may have missed a concert here or there, we’ve compiled the closest thing you’ll find to a list of all free outdoor concerts in Nassau County parks and beaches through the end of July! If we missed any concerts, be sure to let us know on our Facebook page!
