Coined The City By the Sea, Long Beach is home to more than thirty-three thousand residents that forged together as a community following Hurricane Sandy. Between Reynolds Channel in the north and 3.5 miles of untouched beaches in the south, Long Beach is much more than just sand and surf. Long Beach is known for their quality restaurants and bars, as well as a dedicated Parks & Recreation department that hosts tons of fun events with something for just about everyone. There are so many things to do in Long Beach NY this summer.

What’s Happening in Long Beach NY this Summer

Summer Concert Series

Through September 1st, the City of Long Beach is running a Summer Concert Series that is completely free to all visitors and residents. With four concerts a week, the venues are split up between National Boulevard Beach on Mondays and Tuesdays, New York Avenue Beach on Wednesdays, and Neptune Boulevard Beach on Thursdays. Check out performances from acts like Long Beach’s own classic rock cover band F.O.G. on August 18th or Alive & Kickin on August 22nd. Grab a beach towel, some chairs, and plenty of snacks; you’re not going to want to miss a second!

Farmer’s Market

On Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9am-2pm, come down to Kennedy Plaza for one of the area’s biggest and best Farmer’s Markets. Everything is locally sourced, grown, and cultivated with the utmost care. Here, you’ll find organic produce, fresh regional seafood, tasty baked goods, homemade soaps, a variety of wines, some gluten-free options, and more. Forget the grocery store, stock up on everything you need at the Long Beach Farmer’s Market.

Saturday Night Movies on the Beach

Bring a chair or a towel, sit back, and enjoy a movie on the beach. Beginning around sunset every Saturday, a film will be projected on their theater-sized screen. During the month of August, they are showing Jurassic World, Dirty Dancing, and E.T.. Where else are you going to find an event that is great for both families and date nights?

Fun in the Park

As a way to encourage families and children to spend more time outdoors, Long Beach Parks & Recreation runs a program called Fun in the Park. At a different Long Beach park every weekday, families can come and take part in free activities, crafts, and performances all day long. Bring some lunch, sunscreen and anything else you may need. Whether you’re looking for an alternate to day camp or just something to do outside, Fun in the Park is the perfect summer activity.

Wine & Dine

It is no secret that Long Beach is home to some of Long Island’s best restaurants and most active nightlife scenes. For breathtaking views of the beach and tasty seafood, try Atlantica Restaurant at the Allegria Hotel. If you’re looking for one-of-a-kind, delicious pizzas, Sorrento’s might be a better option. There’s also the popular Diner By the Sea where you can order one of their famous, vibrantly colored milkshakes.

For those who fancy a good drink and a fun night out, hotspots like Minnesota’s, Sutton Place, and Lilly’s of Long Beach are watering holes that all the locals swear by.

The Beach

It should go without saying because it seems so obvious, but the beaches of Long Beach are truly the best thing about it. People come from near and far to spend the day on these sandy shores. It is simply what makes Long Beach, Long Beach.
