Snow Day activities

As a kid, there’s nothing better than a day off from school following a big snow storm. You can sleep late, play in the snow and drink endless cups of hot cocoa! You can also try out some of these insanely fun snow day activities that your kids are sure to enjoy.

Fun Snow Day Activities for Children of All Ages

Play in the Snow

Now this one might seem obvious, but playing in the snow will always be one of the most essential snow day activities. There’s so many fun things to do! You can make snow angels, build a snowman, start a snowball fight and, if you’re ambitious, craft a giant igloo.

Or just let your kids’ imaginations run wild! See what kind of cool structures they build. Beach toys like small shovels and buckets make efficient snow crafting tools.

If you really want to get creative with it, combine food coloring and water into a spray bottle and let your kids add color to their masterpieces. You’ll be surprised at what they come up with, just remember to take pictures!

Bake the Day Away

It’s never too early to teach your children how to bake. Besides, every snow day is automatically better with a plate of warm chocolate chip cookies right out of the oven.

It’s a great way to bond with your child, while also teaching them a few lessons along the way. You can teach them cooking safety, how to measure quantities and all of the other small steps that go into a process like this.

When your work is done, you can cuddle up on the couch under some blankets and enjoy all of the tasty treats that you made together. None of the other snow day activities are as tasty as this one!

Go Ice Skating

If the weather isn’t too bad, head out to your nearest rink or pond, lace up your skates and hit the ice. Whether your kids are experienced skaters or not, a day at the rink is never a bad idea.

You can work on your moves, have a silly contest to see who can best imitate Olympic figure skaters or get a friendly hockey game going. Just don’t forget to bundle up and bring some hot beverages to warm up with.

Build a Pillow Fort

There isn’t a better way to hide from the bitter cold than under a fort made of pillows, blankets and chairs. Start by drawing it out and figuring what materials you’ll need. Work together to make your fort as big or little as you’d like.

When you’re done, line the edges with some Christmas lights to bring the inside to life. Grab some snacks, your laptop and have a movie marathon under the comforts of your new, cozy fort.
